2014 BMW X5 Priced From $53,725

Last year's X5 xDrive 35i started at $47,500, and included standard all-wheel drive. The new entry price is for the rear-wheel drive 2014 X5 sDrive35i--a difference that most buyers won't likely notice in actual use, but might feel is a shortcoming at the dealership.

The price differential includes new standard equipment, however, such as: auto start-stop; BMW's latest iDrive 4.2 infotainment system with navigation and touchpad; 10 years of BMW Assist eCall service; 10 years of BMW TeleService; BMW Apps; 40-20-40 spit-folding rear seat; and standard Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering.

It's clear that BMW has decided to replace its all-wheel drive system with a more luxurious, more service-supported vehicle. That may be fine for drivers in warmer states, but those in the snow belt will want to opt for the all-wheel drive xDrive35i or xDrive50i models, which start from $56,025 and $69,125 respectively.

For those seeking better fuel economy, the 2014 X5 xDrive35d diesel should prove a useful companion, and its price premium--which includes the all-wheel drive system of the xDrive35i--is relatively small, starting at $57,525, or just $1,500 more than the gasoline-powered equivalent.

The 2014 BMW X5 will reach U.S. dealers in the fourth quarter of 2013, with gasoline models only at launch. The diesel-powered X5 xDrive35d will follow in early 2014.

BMW ConnectedDrive. So connected, you're free.

We received TWO 5-star reviews on Yelp!

"I have purchased several BMW's and getting ready to purchase again, every aspect of customer service from Finance, Service and Maintenance has been outstanding. I would highly recommend BMW of Bakersfield for new purchases, used cars, service, maintenance and detail services. Simply the best dealership!" -- Mike C.

"This is my third car from this dealership.  I have developed a friendship with these people.   They always make me feel very welcome.   The customer service is beyond what one could expect to receive.   I am very grateful to be driving the car I have  today and I owe it all to my sales manager.  He was relentless.  I went in to buy one car and came out with a much nicer car than I ever expected.  The price was excellent.  My client advisor goes above and beyond to make sure we know everything about the car and even follows up with a phone call.   I researched other dealers and no one came close to the deal that I received.   Buying a car from here is effortless without any of the stress and haggling.  I highly recommend BMW of Bakersfield to everyone." -- Mary W.

2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe Full Details: Release Date & Pricing Announced

As we know, this new model has made its first debut in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year but now the car comes in a full production version.

More importantly, the German luxury automaker has also announced official pricing details for the U.S. market. The all-new 4-Series Coupe will go on sale in U.S. dealerships with a starting price of $41,425 for the 428i variants, followed by the 435i variant that starts at $46,925.

Meanwhile, the 2014 BMW 4-Series 428i xDrive Coupe has an MSRP of $43,425 but the 435i xDrive variant is more expensive, starting at $48,925. All prices are already include destination and handling charges, according to a BMW official press release.

Under its hood, BMW offers two different engine options for the U.S. market. The first option is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that will be available for the 428i variants. Peak power output is rated at 240 horsepower at 5,000 to 6,500 rpm with maximum torque reaches up to 255 lb-ft at 1,250 to 4,800 rpm. It’s good enough to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds before reaching its top speed at 155 mph or 250 km/h (electronically limited).

The next option, the 2014 4-Series 435i Coupe will be powered by a high-revving 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine capable of delivering up to 300 horsepower at 5,800 to 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 1,200 to 5,000 rpm. BMW says the six-cylinder engine is equipped with valvetronic fully variable valve control and high-precision direct-injection.

As a result, the 435i variant with a six-speed manual gearbox is able to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds or 0.4 seconds faster than the 428i variants, which is equipped with a four-cylinder engine. However, when the 3.0L six-cylinder engine connected to an eight-speed Sport automatic gearbox, the 428i coupe will sprint from 0-60 mph in just 5.0 seconds and of course 0.7 seconds faster compared to the base model. That’s pretty impressive, while the top speed will be limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h (electronically limited).

BMW offers two transmission options for both engines, including high-performance eight-speed automatic and optional six-speed manual transmission. In addition to rear-wheel drive, BMW also offers the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system as optional for both variants – 428i and 435i.

There are three optional packages that can be ordered by each buyer, including Sport, Luxury and M Sport.

Sport package will add some new equipment to the car such as sport suspension, gloss black accents and 18-inch light-alloy wheels with twin-spoke design (there’s also an optional 19-inch). Furthermore, Luxury package will add a high-gloss chrome touches, leather seats with stitching, high-gloss wood strips, 18-inch twin-spoke light-alloy wheels and much more.

Meanwhile, the M Sport package will bring some exclusive features such as M aerodynamic package, 18-inch alloy wheels with M design, M leather steering wheel, M Sport suspension (for RWD only) and M Sport Brakes with blue calipers. Speaking about its release date, the 2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe will hit U.S. dealerships late this summer, according to the German automaker.

BMW ConnectedDrive wins Best Safety & Security Solution” at the 2013 Telematics Update Award

The award was given in recognition of BMW’s recent announcement that BMW AssistTM eCall with enhanced Automatic Collision Notification and Teleservice will be standard equipment on nearly all 2014 model BMWs with 10 years of service included.

“We felt strongly that making both BMW Assist and Teleservice standard for the 2014 model year was important for our customers in terms of safety and security, particularly in light of our eCall service with its enhanced Automatic Collision Notification,” said Doug Claus, Department Manager – Product Requirements and Development for BMW of North America. “We are pleased that Telematics Update shared our view of the importance of this step.”

BMW Assist has been available in the US since 1997. It is now included in nearly every BMW sold in the US. For the 2014 model year, BMW Assist will be standard on nearly every model . It will include 10 years of eCall emergency calling and enhanced Automatic Collision Notification as well as BMW Teleservice. BMW Assist eCall includes enhanced Automatic Collision Notification, which includes the groundbreaking Urgency Algorithm, developed in cooperation with the William Lehman Injury Research Center in Miami. Apart from the vehicle’s exact position and direction of travel, details of the vehicle model and all the data gathered by the sensors in the car are relayed to the call center as well.

This information provides indications as to the nature and severity of the collision, while the deployment of the car’s restraint systems gives an idea of the number of people injured and allows frontal, rear, side or even multiple collisions to be identified and differentiated.

The Urgency Algorithm transmits the likelihood of severe injury. On the basis of all accident-related data, the call center decides which and how many emergency services are required at the accident site (e.g. doctor, paramedic, fire department, helicopter). The data also enables the first responders to alert the appropriate medical care provider for those involved in the accident before they have even arrived at the scene. The call center will also stay in contact with the vehicle’s occupants until the emergency services arrive, speaking to them in their native language where possible. As well as automatic activation, the system also allows the driver or front passenger to trigger the emergency call manually in order to help other road users in distress by alerting the call center.

TeleService tells the driver if and when maintenance is required. Fixed service intervals become a thing of the past, because the intelligent maintenance system, Condition Based Service, constantly monitors your vehicle’s service needs. When necessary, the vehicle communicates service-relevant data to the nearest BMW Service Center by making an Automatic BMW TeleService Call.

BMW says Siri will be on board all of its 2014 cars

A year after announcing it had signed on as a future partner of Apple’s Siri EyesFree program, BMW is making good on its word. This week the automaker said that the in-car voice-control mode for iPhone will be a standard feature for its 2014 models, which are set to arrive later this year.

The feature will be part of BMW’s iDrive car software. For those worried about the car becoming yet another place where we have to pick sides in the platform wars: BMW isn’t playing favorites — at least when it comes to the Apple/Samsung battle for global mobile supremacy. The iDrive software will come equipped with both Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice, its own version of voice control software.

With the latest update to BMW iDrive, both Apple Siri and Samsung SVoice can be accessed through the vehicle’s voice command controls. With a paired device, pressing and holding the steering wheel voice command button will engage the device’s voice access. Pressing the steering wheel voice button without holding it will continue to access the vehicle’s voice command functions.

2014 BMW X5 Review: Release Date Confirmed

The redesigned X5 will carry three engine options when the car goes on sale at authorized BMW dealerships later this year.

The first choice, the xDrive50i variant will be available with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine which is expected to deliver at least 450 horsepower (330 kW) at 5,500 rpm with its peak torque reaches at 479 lb-ft or around 650 Nm at 2,000-4,500 rpm. The 4.4L petrol engine benefit from the use of direct-injection feature, Valvetronic and BMW Twin-Power Turbo technology.

As for its fuel efficiency, the direct-injection V8 engine has an average fuel consumption of at least 10,4 to 10,5-liters per 100 km, equivalent to 26,9-27,2 mpg. According to EU standards, the CO2 emissions for this 4,395 cc petrol engine is 242-244 g/km. Speaking about performance, the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive50i can complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.0 seconds and top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

Regardless of the petrol variant, the German-based automaker also offers common-rail diesel engine with a 2,993 cc capacity in the xDrive30d variant. Under its hood, buyers will find a turbocharger 3.0-liter 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine that also featuring BMW Twin-Power Turbo technology, including direct-injection features and variable inlet geometry for turbocharger.
Common-rail diesel version in the redesigned X5 xDrive30d has a peak power output up to 258 horsepower or around 190 kW at 4,000 rpm and its maximum torque to be achieved at 413 lb-ft or around 560 Nm at 1,500-3,000 rpm. According to EU standards, the average fuel consumption for this six-cylinder engine is rated at 6.2-liters/100 km or is equal to 45,6 mpg. Furthermore, the diesel variant has CO2 emissions up to 162-164 g/km.

However, the new X5 xDrive30d can hit the road with its maximum speed up to 143 mph or around 230 km/h and is able to bring you to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds. Unfortunately, in terms of performance, the xDrive30d variant is even worse compared to the first option.

Next up is the third option, the 2014 BMW X5 M50d is powered by a 3.0-liter common-rail diesel engine (2,993 cc) and get the most benefit from the use of BMW M Performance Twin-Power Turbo technology, which consists of three-turbochargers, variable turbine geometry and high-pressure. In addition, this six-cylinder engine also featuring direct injection with piezo injectors.
The maximum output of this three-turbocharged 3.0L engine can reach at least 381 horsepower (280 kW) at 4,000-4,400 rpm with its peak torque up to 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) at 2,000-3,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the fuel efficiency is rated at 6.7-liters/100 km or around 42,2 mpg with CO2 emissions reach 177 g/km.

In terms of performance, the third option is better than the xDrive30d variant. In addition, the new X5 M50d is able to hit the road up to 155 mph (250 km/h) and will complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 5.3 seconds. This suggests that this third option has a performance that is almost equivalent to the xDrive50i petrol variant.

According to BMW, all engine options will be available with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox that features several BMW’s advanced technologies, such as Auto Start-Stop features and Proactive Driving Assistant. The engines are available with standard all-wheel-drive system, while the crossover will also offer several optional packages.

Regardless of engine specifications, the 2014 BMW X5 is basically having an exterior design that is almost similar to the previous model year. However, the German automaker gives some important improvements and slightly changes to its exterior design. At the front end, the new model has a different front grille, new aerodynamic bumper as well as featuring LED adaptive headlights available as an optional.

Furthermore, BMW also provides some special touches on the exterior design to enhance its overall characteristics, such as the rear window with Aero Blades and there’s also Air Breathers as well as Air Curtains. If that’s not enough, the new X5 crossover will also be available with the M Sport package for its exterior and interior, which can be ordered by each buyer with certain combinations.
Moving into the cabin, the interior received some benefit from the use of high-quality materials and some important improvements to increase its luxurious ambience and spaciousness. We can see some important features, such as 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrest, 650-1,870-liters for boot capacity and standard automatic tailgate operation. Not only that, the 2014 model year also gets some exclusive touches that include poplar grain wood trim, aluminum hexagon, gloss black accents, oxide silver and much more.

Speaking about its release date, BMW has officially confirmed that the release date for the 2014 BMW X5 is scheduled for November-December 2013. Shortly after that, the crossover will be available at authorized BMW dealer. Unfortunately, the German automaker hasn’t released official pricing details for the 2014 model year.
