Keep your vehicle safe

Vehicle maintenance isn't just an important way to extent your car's life -- it's a major safety issue. Many maintenance issues are addressed by state mandated vehicle inspections. If your car is unsafe, the inspecting mechanic will let you know what you need to do to fix it. However, there could be a year or more between inspections, so car owners need to be aware of any potential safety issues and get them repaired before they lead to an accident.

Here are a few tips on how to keep your vehicle safe:
  • Be sure to always check on your tire pressure.  One of the most common maintenance problems that can lead to a crash is improper tire pressure. Uneven tire pressure, or pressure that is too high or low, can impact performance or lead to a blowout -- especially in high-performance cars or heavy vehicles like SUVs. You can buy a cheap pressure gauge at any auto parts store and check the pressure against the recommendation in your owner's manual.
  • It's also important to rotate your tires to promote even wear and consistent performance.
  • Brakes. If you notice some "softness" in the brake pedal, or feel a vibration when the brakes are applied, get them checked out by a professional mechanic. The brakes could be wearing out or you could have a problem with the car's hydraulic system.

BMW i8 Roadster named Best Production Preview Vehicle

The North America's Best Production Preview Vehicle honors those models caught in the netherworld between concept and public-sales debut. The place where you can win best concept multiple years in a row.

The i8 Roadster, formerly known as the Spyder, was given the honor by more than two-dozen automotive journalists earlier this month after also winning the North American Concept Car of the Year in 2012. The Best Production Preview Vehicle title is part of an annual series of awards that also include the Best Concept Car, Best Concept Truck/SUV, Best Specialty Concept and Most Significant Concept Vehicle. The awards are handed out each auto show season to concept vehicles that make their North American debut during the current model year's auto show season.

Part of the German automaker's nascent "i" brand for plug-in vehicles, the i8 Spyder was first unveiled in March 2012. Based on the i8 Coupe, the extended-range plug-in delivers 354 horsepower and can go about 19 miles on electricity alone before the gas-powered range-extender kicks in. BMW has estimated that the model gets about 78 miles per gallon equivalent. The production version of the other "i" brand vehicle that we know about, the i3, will be revealed later this month. Read BMW's press release below.

2014 BMW i3 To Be Revealed On July 29

BMW wants to get us all excited for the reveal later this month but many of the car’s details are already documented.

The i3 will feature a rear-mounted electric motor driving the rear wheels and a peak power rating of 125 kilowatts (167 horsepower). Its driving range on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery will be between 80 and 100 miles, but an available range-extending twin-cylinder gasoline engine will help lift that figure to around 186 miles.

BMW’s performance claims call for a 0-60 mph sprint of under 8 seconds, making it not exactly quick, but far from pokey. Key to its performance will be lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic used for its body.

Charging is claimed to be quick, too, with a high-speed charger juicing the lithium-ion battery pack to 80 percent of its charge in about an hour.

According to a previous report, BMW is targeting a final price in line with that of a well-equipped 3-Series, so somewhere in the low-$40k bracket. Apparently, so many people have taken a liking to the i3 that BMW has more than 100,000 eager to test drive one.

Checking/Changing Oil

Most owner's manuals suggest that you change your oil and oil filter every 7,500 miles (12,070 kilometers). Oil change specialists suggest every 3,000 miles (4,828 kilometers) or three months. The fact is, most of us do a lot of heavy driving during the summer when an engine is more likely to overheat. So at least check your oil before you head out on that road trip with the family.

To check your oil, let your car run for a few minutes, then park it on a level surface and shut off the engine. Open the hood and locate the oil dipstick. You're looking for two things here: the level of oil and how the oil looks. If you're low on oil, you can either add another quart or simply change the oil completely. The oil should look brownish yellow and clean on the stick. If the oil is a dark color or there's a lot of dirt and grime in it, then you definitely need an oil change and oil filter replacement.

2014 BMW X5 Priced From $53,725

Last year's X5 xDrive 35i started at $47,500, and included standard all-wheel drive. The new entry price is for the rear-wheel drive 2014 X5 sDrive35i--a difference that most buyers won't likely notice in actual use, but might feel is a shortcoming at the dealership.

The price differential includes new standard equipment, however, such as: auto start-stop; BMW's latest iDrive 4.2 infotainment system with navigation and touchpad; 10 years of BMW Assist eCall service; 10 years of BMW TeleService; BMW Apps; 40-20-40 spit-folding rear seat; and standard Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering.

It's clear that BMW has decided to replace its all-wheel drive system with a more luxurious, more service-supported vehicle. That may be fine for drivers in warmer states, but those in the snow belt will want to opt for the all-wheel drive xDrive35i or xDrive50i models, which start from $56,025 and $69,125 respectively.

For those seeking better fuel economy, the 2014 X5 xDrive35d diesel should prove a useful companion, and its price premium--which includes the all-wheel drive system of the xDrive35i--is relatively small, starting at $57,525, or just $1,500 more than the gasoline-powered equivalent.

The 2014 BMW X5 will reach U.S. dealers in the fourth quarter of 2013, with gasoline models only at launch. The diesel-powered X5 xDrive35d will follow in early 2014.

BMW ConnectedDrive. So connected, you're free.

We received TWO 5-star reviews on Yelp!

"I have purchased several BMW's and getting ready to purchase again, every aspect of customer service from Finance, Service and Maintenance has been outstanding. I would highly recommend BMW of Bakersfield for new purchases, used cars, service, maintenance and detail services. Simply the best dealership!" -- Mike C.

"This is my third car from this dealership.  I have developed a friendship with these people.   They always make me feel very welcome.   The customer service is beyond what one could expect to receive.   I am very grateful to be driving the car I have  today and I owe it all to my sales manager.  He was relentless.  I went in to buy one car and came out with a much nicer car than I ever expected.  The price was excellent.  My client advisor goes above and beyond to make sure we know everything about the car and even follows up with a phone call.   I researched other dealers and no one came close to the deal that I received.   Buying a car from here is effortless without any of the stress and haggling.  I highly recommend BMW of Bakersfield to everyone." -- Mary W.

2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe Full Details: Release Date & Pricing Announced

As we know, this new model has made its first debut in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year but now the car comes in a full production version.

More importantly, the German luxury automaker has also announced official pricing details for the U.S. market. The all-new 4-Series Coupe will go on sale in U.S. dealerships with a starting price of $41,425 for the 428i variants, followed by the 435i variant that starts at $46,925.

Meanwhile, the 2014 BMW 4-Series 428i xDrive Coupe has an MSRP of $43,425 but the 435i xDrive variant is more expensive, starting at $48,925. All prices are already include destination and handling charges, according to a BMW official press release.

Under its hood, BMW offers two different engine options for the U.S. market. The first option is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that will be available for the 428i variants. Peak power output is rated at 240 horsepower at 5,000 to 6,500 rpm with maximum torque reaches up to 255 lb-ft at 1,250 to 4,800 rpm. It’s good enough to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds before reaching its top speed at 155 mph or 250 km/h (electronically limited).

The next option, the 2014 4-Series 435i Coupe will be powered by a high-revving 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine capable of delivering up to 300 horsepower at 5,800 to 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 1,200 to 5,000 rpm. BMW says the six-cylinder engine is equipped with valvetronic fully variable valve control and high-precision direct-injection.

As a result, the 435i variant with a six-speed manual gearbox is able to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds or 0.4 seconds faster than the 428i variants, which is equipped with a four-cylinder engine. However, when the 3.0L six-cylinder engine connected to an eight-speed Sport automatic gearbox, the 428i coupe will sprint from 0-60 mph in just 5.0 seconds and of course 0.7 seconds faster compared to the base model. That’s pretty impressive, while the top speed will be limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h (electronically limited).

BMW offers two transmission options for both engines, including high-performance eight-speed automatic and optional six-speed manual transmission. In addition to rear-wheel drive, BMW also offers the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system as optional for both variants – 428i and 435i.

There are three optional packages that can be ordered by each buyer, including Sport, Luxury and M Sport.

Sport package will add some new equipment to the car such as sport suspension, gloss black accents and 18-inch light-alloy wheels with twin-spoke design (there’s also an optional 19-inch). Furthermore, Luxury package will add a high-gloss chrome touches, leather seats with stitching, high-gloss wood strips, 18-inch twin-spoke light-alloy wheels and much more.

Meanwhile, the M Sport package will bring some exclusive features such as M aerodynamic package, 18-inch alloy wheels with M design, M leather steering wheel, M Sport suspension (for RWD only) and M Sport Brakes with blue calipers. Speaking about its release date, the 2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe will hit U.S. dealerships late this summer, according to the German automaker.

BMW ConnectedDrive wins Best Safety & Security Solution” at the 2013 Telematics Update Award

The award was given in recognition of BMW’s recent announcement that BMW AssistTM eCall with enhanced Automatic Collision Notification and Teleservice will be standard equipment on nearly all 2014 model BMWs with 10 years of service included.

“We felt strongly that making both BMW Assist and Teleservice standard for the 2014 model year was important for our customers in terms of safety and security, particularly in light of our eCall service with its enhanced Automatic Collision Notification,” said Doug Claus, Department Manager – Product Requirements and Development for BMW of North America. “We are pleased that Telematics Update shared our view of the importance of this step.”

BMW Assist has been available in the US since 1997. It is now included in nearly every BMW sold in the US. For the 2014 model year, BMW Assist will be standard on nearly every model . It will include 10 years of eCall emergency calling and enhanced Automatic Collision Notification as well as BMW Teleservice. BMW Assist eCall includes enhanced Automatic Collision Notification, which includes the groundbreaking Urgency Algorithm, developed in cooperation with the William Lehman Injury Research Center in Miami. Apart from the vehicle’s exact position and direction of travel, details of the vehicle model and all the data gathered by the sensors in the car are relayed to the call center as well.

This information provides indications as to the nature and severity of the collision, while the deployment of the car’s restraint systems gives an idea of the number of people injured and allows frontal, rear, side or even multiple collisions to be identified and differentiated.

The Urgency Algorithm transmits the likelihood of severe injury. On the basis of all accident-related data, the call center decides which and how many emergency services are required at the accident site (e.g. doctor, paramedic, fire department, helicopter). The data also enables the first responders to alert the appropriate medical care provider for those involved in the accident before they have even arrived at the scene. The call center will also stay in contact with the vehicle’s occupants until the emergency services arrive, speaking to them in their native language where possible. As well as automatic activation, the system also allows the driver or front passenger to trigger the emergency call manually in order to help other road users in distress by alerting the call center.

TeleService tells the driver if and when maintenance is required. Fixed service intervals become a thing of the past, because the intelligent maintenance system, Condition Based Service, constantly monitors your vehicle’s service needs. When necessary, the vehicle communicates service-relevant data to the nearest BMW Service Center by making an Automatic BMW TeleService Call.

BMW says Siri will be on board all of its 2014 cars

A year after announcing it had signed on as a future partner of Apple’s Siri EyesFree program, BMW is making good on its word. This week the automaker said that the in-car voice-control mode for iPhone will be a standard feature for its 2014 models, which are set to arrive later this year.

The feature will be part of BMW’s iDrive car software. For those worried about the car becoming yet another place where we have to pick sides in the platform wars: BMW isn’t playing favorites — at least when it comes to the Apple/Samsung battle for global mobile supremacy. The iDrive software will come equipped with both Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice, its own version of voice control software.

With the latest update to BMW iDrive, both Apple Siri and Samsung SVoice can be accessed through the vehicle’s voice command controls. With a paired device, pressing and holding the steering wheel voice command button will engage the device’s voice access. Pressing the steering wheel voice button without holding it will continue to access the vehicle’s voice command functions.

2014 BMW X5 Review: Release Date Confirmed

The redesigned X5 will carry three engine options when the car goes on sale at authorized BMW dealerships later this year.

The first choice, the xDrive50i variant will be available with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine which is expected to deliver at least 450 horsepower (330 kW) at 5,500 rpm with its peak torque reaches at 479 lb-ft or around 650 Nm at 2,000-4,500 rpm. The 4.4L petrol engine benefit from the use of direct-injection feature, Valvetronic and BMW Twin-Power Turbo technology.

As for its fuel efficiency, the direct-injection V8 engine has an average fuel consumption of at least 10,4 to 10,5-liters per 100 km, equivalent to 26,9-27,2 mpg. According to EU standards, the CO2 emissions for this 4,395 cc petrol engine is 242-244 g/km. Speaking about performance, the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive50i can complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.0 seconds and top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

Regardless of the petrol variant, the German-based automaker also offers common-rail diesel engine with a 2,993 cc capacity in the xDrive30d variant. Under its hood, buyers will find a turbocharger 3.0-liter 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine that also featuring BMW Twin-Power Turbo technology, including direct-injection features and variable inlet geometry for turbocharger.
Common-rail diesel version in the redesigned X5 xDrive30d has a peak power output up to 258 horsepower or around 190 kW at 4,000 rpm and its maximum torque to be achieved at 413 lb-ft or around 560 Nm at 1,500-3,000 rpm. According to EU standards, the average fuel consumption for this six-cylinder engine is rated at 6.2-liters/100 km or is equal to 45,6 mpg. Furthermore, the diesel variant has CO2 emissions up to 162-164 g/km.

However, the new X5 xDrive30d can hit the road with its maximum speed up to 143 mph or around 230 km/h and is able to bring you to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds. Unfortunately, in terms of performance, the xDrive30d variant is even worse compared to the first option.

Next up is the third option, the 2014 BMW X5 M50d is powered by a 3.0-liter common-rail diesel engine (2,993 cc) and get the most benefit from the use of BMW M Performance Twin-Power Turbo technology, which consists of three-turbochargers, variable turbine geometry and high-pressure. In addition, this six-cylinder engine also featuring direct injection with piezo injectors.
The maximum output of this three-turbocharged 3.0L engine can reach at least 381 horsepower (280 kW) at 4,000-4,400 rpm with its peak torque up to 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) at 2,000-3,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the fuel efficiency is rated at 6.7-liters/100 km or around 42,2 mpg with CO2 emissions reach 177 g/km.

In terms of performance, the third option is better than the xDrive30d variant. In addition, the new X5 M50d is able to hit the road up to 155 mph (250 km/h) and will complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 5.3 seconds. This suggests that this third option has a performance that is almost equivalent to the xDrive50i petrol variant.

According to BMW, all engine options will be available with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox that features several BMW’s advanced technologies, such as Auto Start-Stop features and Proactive Driving Assistant. The engines are available with standard all-wheel-drive system, while the crossover will also offer several optional packages.

Regardless of engine specifications, the 2014 BMW X5 is basically having an exterior design that is almost similar to the previous model year. However, the German automaker gives some important improvements and slightly changes to its exterior design. At the front end, the new model has a different front grille, new aerodynamic bumper as well as featuring LED adaptive headlights available as an optional.

Furthermore, BMW also provides some special touches on the exterior design to enhance its overall characteristics, such as the rear window with Aero Blades and there’s also Air Breathers as well as Air Curtains. If that’s not enough, the new X5 crossover will also be available with the M Sport package for its exterior and interior, which can be ordered by each buyer with certain combinations.
Moving into the cabin, the interior received some benefit from the use of high-quality materials and some important improvements to increase its luxurious ambience and spaciousness. We can see some important features, such as 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrest, 650-1,870-liters for boot capacity and standard automatic tailgate operation. Not only that, the 2014 model year also gets some exclusive touches that include poplar grain wood trim, aluminum hexagon, gloss black accents, oxide silver and much more.

Speaking about its release date, BMW has officially confirmed that the release date for the 2014 BMW X5 is scheduled for November-December 2013. Shortly after that, the crossover will be available at authorized BMW dealer. Unfortunately, the German automaker hasn’t released official pricing details for the 2014 model year.

BMW Gran Lusso Coupe takes luxury and exclusivity to a new level

Competition is driving BMW
BMW is looking for the competitive edge that will help separate them for rivals Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Karim Habib, Head of BMW Design says, “In Pininfarina we have found the ideal partner to lend shape to this vehicle concept.” The luxury coupe features the typical BMW proportions with a long wheelbase, stretched hood and set-back greenhouse. But Pininfarina definitely had a big influence on the Gran Lusso Coupe.

The design teams must have worked well together to come up with such an amazing design. “The result of this cooperative venture is far greater than the sum of its parts,” says Fabio Filippini, Head of Design at Pininfarina. “When two such tradition-rich and experienced brands join forces to turn a vision into reality, something utterly new and exciting emerges. From start to finish, this project was defined by a mutual respect for the identity of the other company.”

Gran Lusso Coupe takes luxury to a new level
The one-off creation exudes luxury and BMW is continuing to move in that direction in the future. “The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé has an extraordinary impact. It expresses hallmark BMW values such as luxury and sheer presence in a highly elegant form,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “I admire the reductive clarity and precision in Pininfarina’s design. Their expectations for the end result have been just as high as ours, and their understanding of design perfectly complements the BMW design DNA for a vehicle of this kind.”
BMW and Pininfarina chose only the finest materials and included top-quality craftsmanship. BMW says the interior features kauri wood that has been aged for 48,000 years that lends a special aura to the cabin. Kauri wood is native to New Zealand and is among the rarest timbers in the world. Its unique grain shifts in color from gold to red to brown, depending on the incidence of light and angle of view. The toppled kauri trees have been preserved in swamps for millennia and is the reason for its special characteristics.

The new BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe is making its global debut in at the 2013 Concorso d’Elegance Villa d’Este in Como, Italy. The one-off exclusive and luxurious coupe will be powered by a V12 powerplant that makes it a powerful luxury sports coupe. Look for some exciting new designs and power from BMW in the future.

BMW Rated as Top Automotive Brand by Forbes

It’s no secret that BMW, as a brand, is one of the most powerful and well recognized in the world. Many of the Bavarian automaker’s cars are unanimously acknowledged as being among the most advanced in the world, with the decades of experience paying off in the modern era.

Sadly, BMW also equates sales figures and profits with success, and the company often strays away from their original philosophy these days, giving people what they think they want, instead of giving them what they deserve for the high premiums that a propeller-badged car attracts these days.
Even their current base model, the 1-Series, can be specified up to such a high level that you can make it more expensive than a moderately-well equipped 5-Series (find a BMW configurator of your choosing, and try it out for yourself) - that can't be right, can it?

The German brand is followed by the names you'd expect to hear afterward, like Toyota, which is ranked 14th overall, and Mercedes-Benz which places 16th, just above Luis Vuitton. Further down (but still in order) we have Honda, Audi, VW (45th overall), Ford (59th overall), Hyundai, Nissan and Lexus in the top 100. These rankings were calculated in October of 2012, so they should remain pretty accurate today, as well.

2013 BMW M6 Coupe Review by Car and Driver

On the open road, the M6 masks its weight well and is perhaps the “Ultimate Touring Machine.” But the satisfaction doesn’t carry over to balls-out bombing runs, as we found out during our latest Lightning Lap track test. Whereas directional stability and roadholding are impressive on any paved road, and the car packs prodigious power, at-the-limit driving is made difficult by a distinct lack of feedback from the steering wheel and brakes. The steering offers three weight settings, but most of our staff prefer the Comfort setting, the lightest of the three. The wheel is simply needlessly heavy in the two other modes. And we think the stability control could allow for more generous tail action in its Dynamic setting.

Even so, the M6 is a considerably more agile and stiff vehicle than the regular 6-series, in large part because its rear subframe is bolted directly to the body. The M6 features an electronically controlled active differential that can instantly shift between zero and full-locking force, as well as electrohydraulic dampers, which operate in clearly delineated Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus settings.

Our car was equipped with 20-inch aluminum wheels, a $1300 option, and carbon-ceramic brakes, which set the buyer back another $9250. The optional binders bite hard and display no sign of fade, but as mentioned, we wish the pedal were a better conversationalist.

Despite its remarkable length of 193.0 inches, the M6 is not particularly spacious. The driver and the co-driver sit low and comfortably and are surrounded by a gracefully arched dashboard. But the rear seats are a far less desirable place to be, because of difficult ingress and egress and limited head- and legroom.

Priced from $109,275, the M6 coupe faces stiff competition in the sports-luxury segment, including the Jaguar XKR, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and Maserati GranTurismo. Many customers in this class appreciate luxury amenities and ease of operation above sheer performance, which is apparent in this car’s execution. But what about those of us who still admire the first-generation M6 and would gladly do without all the electronic assistants and gimmicks?

We started to make an uneasy peace with the M6 far away from civilization, sitting abaft of the controlled inferno in the combustion chambers. We were perhaps a dozen miles into a blitz down a two-lane road, a long, lingering gray cloud of fine dust trailing in our wake. And out of the red mist, a realization came into focus: Unless the car suddenly loses hundred of pounds and the steering and the brakes are retuned, we’re going to have to suck it up and accept what the M6 has become—the Ultimate Touring Machine.

Monday Maitenance Tip!

Check the power-steering fluid once a month with the car warmed up. If the level is low, have the hoses and pump inspected for leaks. In addition to making your car difficult to steer, low power-steering fluid will damage the power-steering pump. Be sure to use the powersteering fluid recommended for you car.

BMW i8 to Move (Silently) Forward Without M Variant

Even if you're not a super spy sent on a mission your superiors deem impossible, you should still be interested in the upcoming 2014 BMW i8. Besides showing off its extremely exotic styling, the i8 features a plethora of exciting technology that's put to use to provide a compelling and sure-to-be-exciting driving experience.

Not only that, it's capable of doing all of this while spitting out zero emissions because it's a plug-in hybrid-electric car. It wasn't always going to be solely an electric machine, however, as there was talk of an M-variant that would change the car from silently mean and green to wicked loud and gasoline swilling.

Rumor had it that the i8 M, M8, 8M, ...car would feature either an eight or ten-cylinder engine. Now though it seems any plan for a fuel-only version has been put to rest, according to CAR.
Still, there's a whole lot to get excited about with the 2014 BMW i8. Yes it will be offered with a torque-vectoring powertrain, but the i8 driver will also be able to switch between a zero-emissions front-drive mode, a rear-wheel-drive mode, or an all-wheel-drive mode. If you want to cruise along silently, you can run the BMW i8 for up to 20 miles without requiring help from the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine.

A more electrifying idea is to run both the electric and gasoline engines at the same time. This way you make full use of the available 393 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. Mash the throttle in this mode and the run from 0-60 miles per hour should happen in well under five seconds. Keep that go-pedal pushed and you will eventually run into the 156 mile per hour top speed.

BMW and Paris Photo Celebrate 10 Year Partnership with BMW M1 Art Car Display

At the inaugural fair of Paris Photo at LA’s Paramount Pictures Studios, BMW is proud to present the M1 BMW Art Car by Andy Warhol, created by the pop artist in 1979, as well as rare making of footage of this work. Originally raced in Le Mans, Warhol in his own words meant to “give a vivid depiction of speed. If a car is really fast, all contours and colors will become blurred.”

Since 1975, prominent artists from throughout the world have designed BMW automobiles of their times, all making extremely different artistic statements. The seventeen exhibits created for the Art Car Collection until now include works by well-known artists such as Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Olafur Eliasson and Jeff Koons. The Art Cars reflect the cultural and historical development of art, design, and technology and have been presented by major museums around the world, including the Guggenheim and the Louvre.

BMW will also present a mini series of Burlesque Style Photos with the 6 Series Gran Coupe by internationally renowned German photographer Uwe Düttmann. Four photos showcasing the 650i Gran Coupe in a retro setting celebrate film noir as well as the extraordinary sensuality of the best of burlesque vis-à-vis the high-tech design of one of the most advanced automobiles of our time.

Two years ago at a Hollywood studio and a private movie set outside of Los Angeles, BMW realized its idea of showcasing the 650i Gran Coupé in this unique manner. As befits the character of the shoot, 15 different photographs inside and outside the Gran Coupé present the two models acting out signature burlesque poses. The pictures will be presented within an environment paying tribute to their origins. Returning back home to LA, they are exhibited at the fair for the very first time.

“BMW is pleased to be involved in the inaugural Paris Photo LA,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “We are particularly looking forward to bringing out Andy Warhol art car and debuting our new photos.”

BMW and Paris Photo celebrate the tenth anniversary of their partnership. As it has in Paris, BMW will provide VIP shuttle service during Paris Photo Los Angeles. For many years, the BMW Group has worked together with great photographers from Bettina Rheims and Bryan Adams to Karl Lagerfeld. The company has been involved in the arts for over four decades with hundreds of initiatives worldwide. In 2005, at the opening of Zaha Hadid’s BMW Leipzig plant, BMW donated its unique collection of commissioned photographs by Thomas Demand, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rineke Dijkstra, Candida Höfer and Thomas Struth, among others, to the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts. When it comes to promoting young outstanding photographers, among many other international cooperations, BMW has been active in providing scholarships for international artists in Germany as well as France, where residences have been set up at the Musée Nicéphore Niépce. In addition, BMW for many years has been engaged with Les Recontres Arles, the acclaimed summer photography festival. As a long-term partner of Art Basel, Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze London and New York as well as Tefaf Maastricht an many other fairs worldwide, BMW has taken in active part of furthering the visibility and innovative spirit of photography as an established form of artistic expression. Whenever possible, the company has complied with artist’s request to allow for photo shootings at our plants around the world. In 2014, the overall yearly theme of the BMW Museum will be “Photography.”
