BMW 335d xDrive Sedan and Touring available in Summer 2013

Our sister-magazine Bimmertoday has just learned that BMW will finally offer the 335d xDrive models on the F30 and F31 platforms. When it goes on sale in Summer of 2013, the BMW 335d xDrive will be available with a twin-turbo diesel engine and more than 300 horsepower. At a little later date, the F31 335d xDrive Touring will be made available as well.

These models will be offered without a doubt to European customers, but it remains unknown which one an whether they will make their way onto U.S. soil.

As with the top-diesels in 5 Series and 7 Series families, BMW will offer the twin-turbo six-cylinder engine in the 3 Series F30 exclusively with the xDrive, a variant without all wheel drive is not planned – unlike the 300 hp petrol engine 335i where customers can choose between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.

In addition to the xDrive, diesel lovers will get the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission as standard. Despite a standard consumption of well under six liters per 100 kilometers, the turbo-diesel will accelerate in approximately 5.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. The 335d xDrive sedan could start at about 50,000 euros, while the touring will have an additional premium price of 1,750 euros.
According to some sources, an BMW M350d xDrive with a Triturbo diesel engine is not planned, simply cause of a small market for such a diesel beast.

Maintenance Tip of the Week

Wheels and tires
Rotate your tires!
Every 5,000 miles or 8,000km, rotate your tires.
Clean brake dust off regularly
Brake dust contains all sorts of nasty stuff. If you leave it too long, the combination of road grime, moisture and heat from your brakes will bake it on to your wheels. Brake dust normally clings to wheels with static electricity so a damp sponge and clean cold water is the best way to get it off.
Check your tire pressures
Check your tire pressures regularly - once a week is ideal. Bad tire pressures can affect fuel economy, handling and comfort. It's easy to do and there is no excuse not to.
Check your tread depth
Bald, slick tires might be good for motor racing but they're no good on the road. Most tires come with tread wear bars built into them now - find one, examine it and if your tread is too low, replace your tires. Four new tires might seem expensive but they're cheaper than a fine or an accident.

2014 BMW M3 spied in Scandinavia

The 2014 BMW M3 continues its winter testing trials in the snowy and cold area of Northern Europe. Latest spy photos comes from Sweden and show a mildly disguised test mule that is being tested in winter conditions.
Visible in the spy shots are the front and rear flared wheel arches, large brakes with cross-drilled discs and the typical four tailpipes specific to M models. Surprising is the fact that the power dome seen on previous prototypes is not available, but regardless, we still believe the production variant of the M3 will retain the iconic bonnet.
As we reported once again earlier today, the F80 BMW M3 will be powered by an inline-six engine, despite a V6 Engine being tested at some point in the process. The engine of choice is a newly developed unit that is said to be rated at around 450 horsepower. The new M3 is expected to be slightly faster than the current E90 generation thanks to a lower weight. If it falls under 1500 kilograms, then the F80 M3 should be more than a strong contender for similar offerings from Audi and Mercedes.

Maintenance Tip of the Week

Checking your coolant level
Something everyone can do. The coolant is the other thing your engine cannot go without. Every engine is different but if you check your handbook you should find where the coolant reservoir is. It will normally be bolted to one side of the engine bay or the other, and be a white semi-transparent bottle. Wait until your engine is cool and take a look at it - the outside should have 'low' and 'high' markings on it and the level of coolant inside should be between the two.
Do not take the radiator cap off to check coolant levels. If the coolant system is still hot then it is still under pressure and the pressure release will burn you.

Maintenance Tip of the Week!

Keeping your paint finish in good condition

Only choose superior car detailing supplies to keep your car's interior and exterior like new. There are plenty of decent quality waxes and polishes on the market today and if the last time you waxed or polished your car was over a decade ago, things have changed considerably since then. The wax and polish compounds are far more sophisticated both in terms of protection from fading, the look of the finish, and the ease of application. For example Turtle Wax Ice gets rid of that old problem of white wax residue. Is a clean car a vanity thing? Partly, yes, but if you park under a tree where birds help repaint your car with recycled blueberries, that guck will come off a lot easier if it falls on a waxed paint job.
Tip: If you find a bird has pooped on your car, wash it off as quick as you can. There are compounds in bird waste that can damage most car paint jobs. If you leave it in the sun and the poop bakes on, you could end up with a dull spot in the paint.
